Yu Hua is a Singapore-based furniture designer-maker who works primarily with wood. Since she was young, she has always drawn inspiration and energy from trees. Her work embraces the natural characteristics of wood, highlighting them in a way that mass-producedfurniture would never be able to. Each piece of timber is carefully chosen for a specific design, taking into account details such as its water content, knots, the direction of tree growth, wood grain and so on. She hopes her work ignites curiosity about the lives of trees and the stories embedded in them. She is currently working on a collection of furniture that explores fluid, sculptural forms. She also takes in old furniture and redesigns them into contemporary pieces to fit within modern spaces.
