Chandigarh: First City to Enact New Criminal Laws

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that three criminal laws—the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—would be implemented in Chandigarh. These laws replaced the Indian Evidence Act, the Indian Penal Code, and the Code of Criminal Procedure, respectively.
