What is a crane boom?

Crane booms are structures made out of heavy-duty steel materials which allow for a high amount of vertical movement. In the event of an unexpected earthquake or strong weather where the crane is lifted high into the air then it is imperative that the boom has some sort of deflecting device. This device is usually referred to as a "cradle" or "divergence device".
