A bill of lading is a legal document passed from the sender of the cargo to the master of the ship and then subsequently to the consignee. It is a contract that reflects the terms and conditions set by the sender and receiver of the goods for the shipment of the products.
It generally fulfills these three functions:
• It lists and highlights the goods to be shipped along with their quantity and size.
• It also acts as a receipt for the shipped products.
