Mount Kailash (6,714m) is the most sacred mountain in Asia and the holiest mountain in Tibet. Situated in the far corner of the Tibetan plateau, this snow-capped peak is sacred to four religions - Hinduism, Buddhism, Jain and the followers of the Bon religion. Four of the greatest rivers originate from Mount Kailash; the Brahmaputra, the Sutlej, the Indus and the Karnali. At the base are two sacred lakes; Manasarovar and Rakastal, with the most important being Lake Manasarovar.
