Pigmentation is a biological process that occurs in the skin in response to the increased production of melanin. The melanin is a dark pigment that is produced in the skin. Dark patches or patches of lighter skin may appear on the forearms, around the elbows, or under the arms. These are known as hyperpigmentation problems. These dark patches may occur because of the increased production of melanin.
