An ultrasonic thickness gauge is a nondestructive testing (NDT) method for evaluating the thickness of a component by measuring the time it takes for sound to travel from the transducer through the material to the component's back end, and then returning to the transducer. The gauge's thickness is then estimated based on the sound velocity passing through the substance being studied. The frequency of an ultrasonic thickness gauge varies depending on the application.
